The Hague beats off England to host 2014 hockey World Cups, for €11m

The Hague is to host the men’s and women’s hockey World Cup in 2014, the international hockey federation announced on Thursday.


England was the other candidate host country for the event, which will take place from June 2 to June 15.
Football club ADO Den Haag’s stadium will be the main location, and a second temporary stadium will also be built. The event has a budget of €11m, according to news agency ANP.
Australia currently holds the men’s title, Argentina the women’s.
The Netherlands last hosted the hockey World Cup in 1998 when it took place in Utrecht.
