PVV firm on theatre ticket tax rise
Efforts to find an alternative to the value added tax increase on theatre tickets may founder because of opposition from the anti-Islam PVV, Nos tv reports on Wednesday.
The hotly contested increase from 6% to 19% is included in the coalition agreement, drawn up by the minority VVD-CDA government with PVV support.
However, VVD MPs are prepared to look at increasing the tax on insurance premiums to 10.2% instead. The coalition deal already includes a commitment to increase this tax from 7.5% to 9.5%.
‘You can choose to visit art, but every Dutchman needs insurance, so we do not want to increase the insurance tax still further,’ PVV MP Roland van Vliet is quoted as saying.
