NSB number plates are a mistake, says licence body

The vehicle licencing authority RDW has issued several hundreds of car number plates featuring the letters NSB – the initials given to the Dutch national socialist movement, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

The RDW was alerted to the error by dealers selling the German car brand Volkswagen, the paper says. ‘Our customers are rightly refusing to drive around with them,’ one spokesman told the paper.
The RDW has a list of banned letter combinations but says it forgot to include NSB.
The Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging (NSB) was founded in 1931 by Anton Mussert and became distinctly anti-semitic in 1936, under the influence of Meinoud Rost van Tonningen. It sided with Germany in World War II and at its height, in 1943, had over 100,000 members. The party was outlawed when Germany surrendered in May 1945.
