Mystery surrounds Dutch Afghan kidnap victim

Mystery surrounds exactly who is the aid worker known as Peter, apparently kidnapped in Afghanistan two weeks ago, the Volkskrant reported at the weekend.

The man’s identity is being kept secret, but no-one working in the region has heard of him or the organisation he works for, the paper says.
The paper says the only thing which is clear is that the man broke security protocols covering foreign aid workers by travelling alone with a driver. Over the past year, 22 foreign aid workers have been kidnapped and 11 killed, the paper points out.
Peter is thought to have been kidnapped by a criminal gang. Diplomats hope a news blackout will help them win his release.
