Football club Sparta claims back ‘lost’ painting
Football club Sparta said on Wednesday that it would try to recover a painting valued at tens of thousands of euros by a tv antiques show.
The current owner told the tv show he found the painting in a skip while the club buildings were being renovated 26 years ago.
But club commercial manager Charles van der Steene told Nos tv the painting, by Rotterdam artist J H van Mastenbroek, had not been thrown away.
It hung in the boardroom until the renovation process and then ‘disappeared’, he was quoted as saying.
