‘Charging mobile phone calls by the minute breaks EU law’
The practice of rounding up mobile phone calls to the nearest minute, rather than charging per second, breaks EU rules, telecoms commissioner Neelie Kroes told a tv show at the weekend.
Charging two minutes for a call lasting one minute one second breaks EU rules, the commissioner said. ‘European law is above Dutch law,’ she reiterated.
Since the row over charging per minute erupted several weeks ago, KPN has said it will reverse the situation for existing clients, but new customers will have to pay per minute.
