Amsterdam gets new, privately-funded theatre

A new theatre complex, funded by a private trust, was opened in Amsterdam by queen Beatrix on Sunday.

The DeLaMar theatre was built by the VandenEnde foundation, run by tv and theatre producer Joop van den Ende and his wife Janine Klijberg. The foundation put €65m into the project.
Joop van den Ende made his fortune from tv production house Endemol, which invented the Big Brother tv format.
The DeLaMar has two theatres with a total 1,500 seats. It’s opening show is the musical La Cage aux Folles.
