The Netherlands is to side with other major EU countries such as Britain, France and Germany in campaigning to get Brussels to rein in its spending, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.

The paper says prime minister Mark Rutte will join other leaders in trying to stop the European Commission increasing its budget almost 8% and the European parliament 6% at a time when member states are being forced to slash their spending.
This weekend, British prime minister David Cameron described the increase as ‘unacceptable’. Rutte had a meeting with Cameron last week, the paper says.
