Firm pays council to employ staff to process its own applications

A wind energy firm is paying Delfzijl town council €45,000 to employ extra civil servants to process its application to erect 20 wind turbines on the nearby coast, local tv station RTV Noord reports.

Company Millenergy wants to place the turbines along a dyke and pier at Oterdum, east of Groningen and has asked the council for a speedy reaction to its application.
Delfzijl, in turn, said it needs to hire in more staff to look at the plans and Millenergy has agreed to foot the bill.
Council spokesman Mahmut Kaptan said the arrangement does not mean the company will be awarded a permit.
