EU founding father Max Kohnstamm dies at 96
Max Kohnstamm, historian, diplomat and one of the driving forces behind the early days of the European Union, has died in Amsterdam at the age of 96.
Kohnstamn was queen Wilhelmina’s private secretary after World War II. He was vice president of the Dutch delegation to the Schuman Plan in 1950, secretary to the European Coal and Steel Community from 1952 to 1956 and vice president of the Action Committee for the United States of Europe from 1956.
