Dutch accused of abandoning injured allies in Afghanistan
An Australian former soldier is claiming Dutch troops in Afghanistan refused to come to the aid of Australian soldiers after they had been attacked by the Taliban.
The Herald Sun newspaper on Friday quotes from a book by ex-SAS soldier Rob Maylor, who says the Dutch wouldn’t open fire on the Taliban or bring their helicopters down from a safe height after the attack.
‘They still wouldn’t engage. SG (the air strike co-ordinator) had had enough so he told them, ‘If you’re not going to engage then you might as well f— off’, and they did,’ Maylor said.
The Dutch defence ministry has not yet commented on the allegations.
