German football club Bayern Munich is demanding that the Dutch national squad immediately return captain Mark van Bommel to avoid further damage to his knee in tonight’s international against Sweden, the NRC reports.

Van Bommel, who received the injury to his right knee during Friday’s match against Moldavia, did not take part in Sunday afternoon’s training. Dutch medical staff have said he is fit enough to play.
The German club has been embroiled in a dispute with the Dutch football association for months about the injuries to Arjen van Robben just prior to the World Cup.
