The Netherlands rises in WEF global ranking

The Netherlands has risen from 10th to eighth place in the latest edition of the World Economic Forum’s global competitiveness report. Holland was eighth in the 2008 rankings.

The Dutch position is partly due to the country’s economic stability, its ‘excellent’ education system and readiness to accept new technologies.
But access to financing, difficult labour laws and government red tape are the biggest obstacles to doing business here, the OECD says.
Switzerland heads the list.
According to Nos tv, Denmark has gone down from fifth to ninth in the rankings because its tough new immigration policy means the country can no longer attract foreign expertise.
The Netherlands is also likely to get tough on immigration if a new right-wing cabinet emerges from the current coalition talks.
