Fewer new home permits granted in first six months
Local authorities gave planning approval for some 25,000 new homes in the first six months of this year, down 21% on the first half of 2009.
The number of permits for rented properties fell 28%, the national statistics office CBS said.
Housing corporations, which control around one third of the country’s housing stock, made 34% fewer applications to build new homes.
