Escaped pelican Groenerick won’t be caught

Groenerick, the pelican who escaped during a flying display at a wildlife park this summer, has twice avoided efforts to recapture him, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

Three pelicans flew off during the display in the middle of July. One, Roderick, returned to the Beekse Bergen park south of Tilburg of his own free will and Blauwerick was caught later by a farmer.
But Groenerick has been enjoying himself in the Groningen countryside and is refusing to be caught, the paper says. Now the wildlife authorities plan to place his fellow escapees in a cage in an effort to lure Groenerick back into captivity.
