US investor Viacom pulled out of a deal to take over Hyves, which is more popular than Facebook in the Netherlands, in 2008.
The paper says Hyves has had informal talks with a number of potential buyers, including the Telegraaf Media Group and Finland’s Sanoma.
However, Hubert Deitmers, chairman of the Hyves supervisory board, said the company is not actively looking for a new owner.
Hyves claims 10 million members in the Netherlands and booked turnover of €20mln last year.
