The Dutch are prepared to spend €255 a year to improve the environment, according to a survey by National Geographic magazine to celebrate 10 years of its Dutch edition, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.

But Flemish-speaking Belgians are willing to spend €320 a year, the magazine said.
Some 84% of both the Dutch and Flemish would like to see a halt to the destruction of the tropical rain forest and other environmentally-sensitive areas. Of the Dutch, 45% think such areas should be closed to the public, compared with 52% of the Flemish.
