Anti-hooligan law comes into force

New legislation aimed at giving mayors greater powers to deal with football hooligans and other troublemakers comes into force on Wednesday.

The law means officials can impose stadium bans, a ban on congregating in certain areas and a ban on forming groups. And the parents of children aged under 12 who cause a nuisance can also be required by law to stop their offspring going out without supervision.
The law will focus on repeat offenders.
