Thunderstorms wreak havoc in east

Trees have been blown down and rail and road traffic disrupted in heavy thunderstorms across the east of the country on Monday.


A number of people setting up for the Zwarte Cross music and motorcross festival in Lichtenvoorde were injured and taken to hospital after the storm struck.
According to the Telegraaf, winds of up to 100 kph sent a massive marquee into the air. The festival is due to start on Friday.
In the east of the country dozens of trees were blown down, and very heavy rain caused localised flooding.
A church spire in the Gelderland village of Vragender blew down onto a nearby cafe but no-one was injured.
Part of Hengelo railway station’s roof collapsed, causing serious disruption to train traffic.
