Telecom regulator wants to name names

Telecom sector watchdog Opta is to appeal to the council of state in an effort to be allowed to publicise the names of companies fined for anti competitive practices or misleading customers, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.

Opta says a ruling by the country’s highest court has important implications for regulators in all sectors who are currently ordered to keep names secret if a company plans to appeal.
‘Naming names has an important preventative function,’ an Opta spokesman said.
Amsterdam district court ruled earlier that naming a company which has been fined but is appealing against a conviction can be extremely damaging to its reputation.
