Add as a favourite source on Google Add DutchNews as a favourite source on GoogleDutch marines have been forced to free 13 Somalia pirates captured two weeks ago because no country will prosecute them, the NRC reports on Friday.
The men were arrested by marines from the frigate MS Evertsen while trying to hijack a merchant ship in the Arabian Sea. The Evertsen is part of an EU anti-piracy force in the region.
Despite agreements with Kenya, Tanzania and the Seychelles, no country was prepared to take the pirates, the NRC said. Some 150 men are already awaiting trial in Kenyan jails, a Dutch foreign ministry spokesman told the paper.
