Dutch couple smuggled Filipino women

A couple from Hoofddorp are suspected of smuggling dozens of Filipino women to Italy via the Netherlands, news agency ANP reported on Wednesday.

The couple, aged 57 and 41, have been in custody since January after immigration police began their investigation, ANP says.
The pair helped Filipino women come to the Netherlands on a visa and then charged them thousands of euros for the onward journey to Italy. A number of people who agreed to act as guarantors for the new arrivals so they could get a visa will also face legal action, ANP said.
