Philippine communist leader probe ended
The public prosecution department said on Tuesday it had called off its investigation into Philippine communist leader Jose Maria Sison, citing a lack of evidence.
Sison, founder of the Philippine Communist Party, was under investigation over his role in several political murders.
Sison (70) has lived in the Netherlands since 1987 and was arrested in August 2007. He was released from jail in September 2007 after a court said there was not enough evidence to prove he had been involved in the murders.
During the investigation, officials ‘ran into a wall of fear’ and found there was ‘no willingness’ to make statements, the department said in a statement.
