Duty free sales fall in the Netherlands
Tourists and other visitors from outside the European Union spent €76m on duty free sales in 2008, €2.3m less than in 2007, according to tax free organisation Global Refund, quoted by news agency Novum.
People from outside the EU can claim back value-added tax on their purchases in the Netherlands.
The Chinese were the biggest spenders, followed by Russians and Americans. Spending was up on clothing but down on watches and jewelry.
