Many over-50s not prepared to work to 65

One-third of people over the age of 50 are not prepared to continue working until they are 65 because they do not feel physically or mentally able to do so, according to a poll of 10,000 people by health research group Lifeguard.

The survey shows that 34% of the over-50s think they are less productive, more often absent and cost more in health terms.
The government is keen to get more people to stay in work until they reach the official retirement age of 65, and is also considering increasing the age for state pensions to 67.
At the moment only one in four men and one in 10 women still works past the age of 60.
