US energy firm eyes Essent recycling unit
US renewable energy generation company Wheelabrator would like to take over Essent Milieu, the waste disposal and recycling division of energy concern Essent.
Wheelabrator’s vice president Don Carpenter told the Financieele Dagblad on Thursday that his company is ‘very interested’ in a takeover.
Essent Milieu, which is valued at around €1.3bn, is not part of the planned sale of Essent to the German energy concern RWE, say sources quoted by the paper.
Wheelabrator has not yet made a bid for Essent Milieu and is likely to face competition from British waste management company Shanks, which is already active in the Netherlands.
But Shanks Nederland’s managing director Michaël van Hulst told the Financieele Dagblad his company is ‘mainly interested in Essent’s composting activities’.
