Gaza: aid minister condemns relief stop

The decision by the United Nations relief organisation Unrwa to suspend humanitarian aid to Gaza because of the Israeli attacks on its institutions and staff is ‘extremely serious’, news agency ANP reports aid minister Bert Koenders as saying.

ANP says Koenders has told the Israeli ambassador in The Hague that the Netherlands considers it unacceptable that Unrwa has stopped its operations because of Israel’s actions.
The UN agency suspended its Gaza relief operations after Israeli bullets killed a driver in a food convoy during Israel’s stated three hour lull in the fighting.
‘This is heartbreaking… a very, very difficult decision for us to take,’ UNRWA director of operations in Gaza John Ging told a news conference at UN Headquarters in New York by video link.
The Netherlands donated €23m to Unrwa last year, of which €8m was emergency aid, says ANP.
