Storm winds disrupt air and train travel

Gusts of wind of up to 100 km per hour are causing considerable problems throughout the country, including delays for train and plane passengers on Friday morning, reports ANP news service.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport is reporting delays of at least 90 minutes because some runways cannot be used.
Meanwhile, trees have crashed onto railway lines in three places and a number of overhead cables have also been damaged.
The worst of the rail problems are on the routes between Leiden, The Hague and Rotterdam where fewer services are operating and Almere and Weesp where there were still no trains by Friday midday.
The forecast is for the stormy conditions to continue into the afternoon with wet snow and hail expected in many areas.
