Motorised wheelchairs need road rules
Labour MPs are calling for clearer rules on the use of motorised wheelchairs which keep the elderly mobile.
There are currently 150,000 of them on the road and the number increases by 35,000 a year, according to news agency ANP.
Labour MP Lia Roefs wants transport minister Camiel Eurlings to introduce rules on mirrors, lights and kilometre counters for the vehicles, says ANP.
She says that currently users can choose whether they are pedestrians, cyclists or drivers. ‘It does not make the situation any clearer,’ she told ANP.
