Dutch game makers ready for awards

The Dutch online gaming industry be out in force tomorrow for the presentation of the country’s first ever Game Awards.

One of the producers nominated in three categories is Triumph Studios in Delft. Overlord, their second production, is a humorous fantasy game along the lines of Lord of the Rings and has already sold more than a million copies with a sequel planned for next year.
Lennart Sas, one of the founders of Triumph: ‘The awards are a good way of letting people know that Overlord is a Dutch game. Many people aren’t aware of that.’
But not all Dutch gaming companies have been as successful as Triumph. One of the country’s largest studios, Rotterdam-based Coded Illusions, will not be represented at the awards. After four years in development, its futuristic action-adventure game Haven has still not seen the light of day. Three weeks ago the firm, which had a staff of 40, went bankrupt.
It is estimated that there are about 250 organisations and 2,500 individuals involved in the Dutch gaming sector.
