Banks launch credit crisis investigation

Dutch banks have announced a joint investigation into the consequences of the current credit crisis for the banking sector.

In a statement on Monday the banking association NVB said it is setting up an advisory committee from within the sector to come up with ‘concrete recommendations’ based on lessons learnt from the current crisis.
Areas covered will include communication about financial products, the introduction of a code of conduct and salary structures as well as possible changes to regulations governing banks and their supervision.
The committee will be headed by former ING bank’s financial director Cees Maas. It is expected to present its report in the spring of 2009.
