Watchdog to probe financial information
The financial services sector watchdog AFM is to look at the way a number of Dutch banks and insurers published information for investors, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Tuesday.
There are ‘doubts’ about whether financial firms listed on the stock exchange are ‘consistent’ in the way they make information available, the paper says.
For example, the AFM will investigate whether the risks associated with complicated investment products are made clear enough, the paper says.
There are eight financial institutions listed in Amsterdam, of which Fortis, Aegon, ING and SNS Reaal are the biggest.
The AFM said in July it was looking into the supply of public information by Fortis after the company suddenly announced a rights issue.
