Schiphol airport security tightened

Security has been stepped up at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport after it was revealed on Wednesday that an undercover journalist sneaked a fake bomb into the cargo area.

Schiphol operations director Ad Rutten told the current affairs show Pauw & Witteman last night that he would increase the number of ID checks for staff at the airport.
And from July all vehicles, goods and personnel entering Schiphol’s outer boundary will be electronically scanned.
‘We are never happy to hear about this sort of thing [security leaks] because despite the enormous energy and big investments we make, you see that there that there are still weak points,’ Rutten said.
GroenLinks MP Femke Halsema said Rutten’s reaction to the security leak was ‘irresponsibly laconic’ and said both Schiphol and justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin were failing to take responsibility, reports ANP news service.
