Heavy thunderstorms expected this evening

Following Thursday’s oppressive daytime humidity and heat – with temperatures ranging between 25° and 30° – the night will see rain and thunderstorms in the south of the country moving north, reports the KNMI weather service.

“During the showers, wind gusts of up to 60 km/h are possible,” said the weather service, and “there is a chance of hail up to 2 cm and heavy rain may fall in a short time”.

While no official warnings have currently been issued, KNMI said there’s a possibility of wind gusts, downed trees and local flooding.

The weather service has just launched a thunderstorm notification app to alert people of local storms happening within 15 minutes of where they are. Currently operating as a beta test through August 31 in the KNMI app, you can download it here and provide feedback later.
