The Rijksmuseum’s blockbuster exhibition Vermeer will open on some evenings as well to process the record numbers of visitors that are expected, the museum said on Tuesday.

Some 100,000 tickets have been sold a month before the kickoff on February 10, a first for the museum which has hosted other blockbusters, such as Late Rembrandt in 2015 and Rembrandt -Velasquez in 2019.

Vermeer looks set to break all records, however, which is why the museum has decided to remain open until 10pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The museum said only a limited number of tickets is available and the late opening will give more people ‘a chance to have a pleasant experience’.

On Tuesday the museum launched an accompanying website called Dichter bij Johannes Vermeer (Closer to Johannes Vermeer) in which actors Stephen Fry and Joy Delima act as guides to the ultra high resolution photos of the artist’s works.

Vermeer, which will unite 28 of the artist’s 37 known works, is on from  February 10 until June 4.
