Southern regions of the Netherlands could experience a heatwave later this week, with temperatures hitting the 30-degree mark from Tuesday.
Weather bureau Weeronline said long periods of sunshine, warm air moving up from the south and relatively little wind would drive up temperatures over the course of the week.
The cloud covering most of the country on Monday morning will gradually disperse, with temperatures ranging from 18 degrees in the north to 26 in the southern provinces of Zeeland, Noord-Brabant and Limburg.
A cloudy night will provide the basis for a much warmer day on Tuesday, when some parts of the south could get up to 32 degrees.
The weather is expected to cool slightly towards the end of the week, dropping down below 25 degrees, but next week’s expected heatwave in France could ripple out to the Netherlands, pushing the thermometer up to 35.
Weeronline said the lack of wind also meant rainfall would be low, worsening the drought-like conditions in eastern and south-western areas.
