The Dutch rate of inflation remained virtually unchanged in April at 9.6% when calculated according to Dutch methods, national statistics office CBS said on Tuesday.

In particular, the price of food is increasing, with vegetables up 12.6%, meat 10.5% and coffee and tea almost 14%, the CBS said.

The government lowered fuel taxes in April in an effort to temper inflation but the effect of the measure has been limited, with the overall rate falling by just 0.1 percentage point when compared with March.

Calculated according to European methods, which excludes rental housing costs, the April rate was 11.2%. This down from a record 11.7% in March but still well above the eurozone average of 7.5%.
