Coronavirus cases pass 100,000 mark, more patients in hospital
More than 100,000 positive coronavirus tests have been recorded in a 24-hour period for the first time, according to latest figures from the RIVM.
The public health agency recorded 112,278 confirmed cases on Monday morning, beating the old record, set the day before, by more than 35,000. The figure is also 74% higher than last Monday’s total.
More than half of all tests taken (54%) were positive in the last week, while on Saturday the proportion was above 60% for the first time.
The number of patients in hospital went up by 90 to 1,247, the highest level for two weeks. On average 147 patients a day have been admitted to hospital with coronavirus infections in the last week.
The rising trend has not yet been seen in intensive care departments, where there are currently 212 coronavirus patients. In the last week the number has gone down by 19%.
