A 27-year-old Dutchman who was attacked by a gang of his fellow nationals while on holiday in Majorca has died of his injuries, local media have reported.

The man was one of a group of friends attacked by the gang in Playa de Palma after cafes closed at 2am. Three of the group were injured and he was taken to hospital with severe head injuries.

Police have been able to identify all nine of the attackers via surveillance camera footage which captured the attack and other incidents the gang were involved in earlier in the evening.

All nine attackers are said to be 18 to 20 years old. Eight of them managed to flee to the Netherlands before they could be arrested but one 18-year-old remained on the island to return the key to the villa they were staying in. He has been picked up by local police.

The others are now the subject of an international arrest warrant and Dutch police have been asked to take them into custody, Spanish media reported.

A Dutch police spokeswoman told broadcaster NOS that the arrest warrant had not yet been received.
