Health ministry officials are working on a deal which will see swabs taken during coronavirus tests in the Netherlands sent to labs in Abu Dhabi for analysis, broadcaster NOS said on Wednesday.

The deal between Dutch lab Saltro, its sister lab in Abu Dhabi, and the ministry are almost complete, the broadcaster said. Both Saltro and the Abu Dhabi lab are part of Swiss giant Unilabs, NOS said.

The Netherlands also has a deal with laboratories in Germany and Belgium to process the swabs.

On Wednesday it emerged that 10,000 people a day are being turned away from test centres because of the lack of capacity for dealing with the swabs once they have been taken.
