No rain last night? More storms are expected today, say weather forecasters

Last night’s storms brought tree damage and flash flooding to Limburg and parts of Noord-Brabant and Overijssel, but despite the predictions, Noord and Zuid-Holland escaped the worst of the weather.

At one point on Thursday evening, the Buienradar weather alarm showed major storms over most of the country but, despite high hopes of rain and cooler temperatures, the central Randstad area remained dry.

The weather agency said on Friday that storms are difficult to locate. ‘It is hard to predict exactly when and where the storm clouds will develop,’ a spokesman told the Telegraaf. ‘You can liken it to popping corn. You know the corn will pop but you can’t predict which will be first.’

There is, however, a second chance on Friday evening, with the KNMI weather bureau suggesting storms are again likely over most of the country. Website Weerplaza too says there will be heavy rail and hail at times as does Weeronline.

On Saturday and Sunday too, more rain is on the way, interspersed with sunny spells. The picture is similar into next week.
