A 16-year-old girl has been arrested in Rotterdam in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old girl, who died in an appartment in the city on Wednesday evening after being stabbed.

The incident took place in the Rotterdam district of Spangen, and despite efforts to save her by the emergency services, the girl died at the scene.

Police are now trying to put together what happened at the apartment and what the relationship of the girls is to each other.

The killing has shocked the neighbourhood. Locals told the AD they do not understand how the stabbing could have happened. Both girls were ‘kind’, who had respect for their elders and always said hello when they met you on the street, several residents told the paper.
