The Dutch coronavirus tracing app CoronaMelder can now be downloaded nationwide, even though testing is only ongoing in Drenthe and Overijssel.

The app uses bluetooth technology to register who users have been in contact with. If the user is diagnosed with having coronavirus, the information can be shared with all contacts although the local health boards will have to give the go ahead before sharing can take place.

The alert system currently only functions in the two test provinces but will be brought in  nationwide in September.

The Dutch privacy watchdog AP has not yet given its verdict on the app.
