Almost three in five people in the Netherlands bought or rented an item, or used a service, from an online platform, according to new figures from national statistics agency CBS.
Some 35% used food delivery apps such as Thuisbezorgd or Deliveroo, almost one third bought second-hand goods via the likes of Marktplaats and 20% booked a hotel or holiday house using online agencies like Booking.com.
Digital platforms offering cleaning services or odd jobs, were much less popular – just 4% of those polled said they had used such services.
Platforms were most popular in the 45 to 25 age range, with 80% saying they had used an online service at least once in 2019.
