A Dutch Olympic athlete has been arrested in Germany with 50 kilos of crystal meth and ecstasy, broadcaster NOS said on Thursday.

The athlete is thought to be Madiea Ghafoor, the Dutch national indoor 400 metre champion, who was part of the 2016 Olympic squad and the Dutch 4×400 metre team.

According to NOS, she was arrested on June 18 after a routine police check near the German border with Arnhem. The drugs were found in the boot of the car she was driving.

The German public prosecution department has confirmed a Dutch woman has been arrested but did not confirm her identity. The drugs have a street value of €2m, the department said.

The arrest is the second high profile Dutch drugs arrest in Germany in June.

Last week it emerged a woman who works for the public prosecution department was arrested after being caught in a random stop and search operation.

The car was found to contain two kilos of cocaine, six kilos of amphetamines and 10,000 ecstasy pills. It is not known what job she did within the department, but she has been suspended.
