Man jailed for 108 days for driving into couple, killing both

A 25-year-old man from Tilburg who killed a couple when his car ploughed into them has been given 108 days in jail, plus 240 hours community service, and banned from driving for five years.

Faisal D, who had earlier convictions for speeding, was driving at least 22 kph above the speed limit when he hit the 62-year-old man and 59-year-old woman who were about to cross the road.

D did not stop after the accident and only turned himself in to the police after this brother, who owned the car, was arrested. He had two earlier convictions for speeding and had been earlier banned from driving for two months.

The public prosecution department had called for a 15 month jail term.
