Of the 63,000 Polish nationals who arrived in the Netherlands in 2011, 20,000 were still living here five years later, the national statistics agency CBS said on Friday.

The people who stay have a higher-than-average income and more often than not a permanent job, the CBS said.

On average, more women than men remained in the Netherlands. Those in the middle age group tended to stay, with younger and older workers returning to Poland.

The government’s socio-cultural think-tank SCP said last month some 160,000 Polish nationals were registered as living in the Netherlands in 2017, making them the sixth biggest migrant group in the country.

In addition, a further 90,000 come to the Netherlands periodically to do seasonal work.

That survey of 1,000 Polish nationals found three quarters expect to live in the Netherlands for at least the next five years and more than 50% of couples are raising children here.
