Two men have died in hospital after being rescued from a car that plunged into a canal at a holiday park.

The car was driven into the water overnight on Saturday at Duinrell park in Wassenaar. Fire service divers hauled three men out of the vehicle but the two passengers, aged 47 and 36, have since died.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, was arrested in hospital and has since been discharged. Police said they did not believe any other vehicle was involved.

Omroep West reported that the three men were living temporarily at the park during the off-season. During the winter the chalets are let out to people working in the local area.
