The Dutch women’s hockey team has qualified for the final of this year’s European championships in Amsterdam after beating England 1-0 with a goal in the final quarter.

England had beaten the Dutch in their two most recent key encounters – in Rio Olympic final and in the final of the European championships in 2012.

Oranje will meet Belgium, who beat Germany 1-0 in the other semi-final, in Saturday evening’s final. It is the first time Belgium have made the last stage of an international tournament.

The Dutch men’s team will also meet England in this evening’s semi-final match. Germany and Belgium – who are favourites to win the tournament overall – play the other match.
