Dutch transport more goods by rail to Italy, less to nearby Germany

Dutch companies moved more goods by rail last year, with total cross-border transports increasing by 2.3% to 37 million tonnes, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.

The CBS said that, based on new figures, transport to and from Italy, Belgium, Austria and the Czech republic registered an increase last year, but movements to Germany, France and Switzerland declined.

Roughly 66% of all Dutch cross-border rail goods transport is with Germany, followed by Italy at 15%.
